Hobby

Do you have a hobby? I don’t know if you do, but if you don’t, then you might want to think about getting one. When I first told a good friend of mine that I have bipolar disorder, she recommended that I find a good hobby. She was right!

I’ll admit, it was hard at first. Between getting my medications adjusted and my therapy appointments worked in, finding a hobby kind of took a backseat. But, as I got further into my recovery, I realized that I wanted to explore my creativity.

I started writing. I was able to express myself through all kinds of avenues. I also got into health and nutrition down the road and started experimenting with healthy recipes in the kitchen. I was finding several different ways to express myself, without turning to anger.

I also had both my husband and my Mom to talk to. A big thing I’d do was talk to them about God and His plan for me. It helped having them both cheer me on and praying to the LORD for guidance.

Now, I’ve slowly been able to add different forms of fitness into my recovery. It’s great to keep myself strong both mentally and physically. I feel like instead of focusing on the anger, I can channel it into a good workout.

The LORD has really blessed me. I went through a lot in my early twenties, with being in the dark about my disorder and not feeling like myself. I felt like I was in a dark place for a few years. But, I am happy to say that I’m recovering each and every day.

If you’re focusing on recovery, please consider exploring a hobby. Get creative. Try out a dance class or start a blog. This is your life, you deserve to make it as fun and creative as possible. Please don’t waste a precious talent that you have somewhere inside you. Like I said, you deserve to go out there and make the most of it.

See you soon!
