What Do You Have to Say?

As a writing teacher, I often get the question, “What should I write about?” My response is always, “Write about having nothing to write about.” Believe it or not, most of the time, these students end up with something they actually wanted to say and just couldn’t get it out on the page until they were told they had to do it.

We all have something to say, but sometimes we just don’t realize it.

With bipolar II, I’ve found writing to be a crucial tool in managing my moods and organizing my mind. Regardless of how I’m feeling, getting something down on paper feels good. It frees up more space in my brain I think, or that’s what I imagine anyway.

What do you have to say? This is a challenge to all who read this. Spend a week writing something every day. It doesn’t have to be long or poetic or grammatically correct. Maybe it’s just a Facebook post or a Tweet. It just has to be something that expresses how you are feeling that day. My guess is by the end of the week you’ll agree that expressing yourself was worth it and that you had something to say after all.

I’d love to hear how your experiment went. Find me at http://stillhopefulmom.com.
