Something I Am Proud Of:

I am succeeding by fulfilling my daily commitments to my kids, my family, my friends, and my job. I am fighting every day with the help of my support system. My proudest moment in my journey has been the day I became a facilitator for DBSA (Depression Bipolar Support Alliance). The group has been my rock, and it is wonderful to know I am not alone. By taking it one day at a time, I am coping with and learning more about this illness.

Advice For Newly Diagnosed:

It took several years to process and fully come to terms with my diagnosis. Fortunately I have made great strides in my condition, but now I understand my bipolar will not simply “go away” just because I’ve resumed my everyday routines and responsibilities. My means of defense are daily meds, regulated sleep, talk therapy, journaling, and self-care. This kind of self-discipline has never been my strong suit, but I know how important it is to stay the course and stay healthy. My hope is for others to know it’s possible to lead a productive, fulfilling life with a mental illness.
