Special needs trusts can be a great tool to ensure the quality of life when it comes to assisting a person diagnosed with bipolar disorder. One of the greatest factors about whether a special needs trust will be effective is the choice of a management team. This presentation will focus on management options including the use of advisory committees, trust protectors, care management and different options for professional trustees.
Stephen W. Dale received his JD from Armstrong Law School and his LL.M. in Taxation from Golden Gate University in 2001. The Dale Law Firm (https://dalelawfirm.com/) was established in 1992 in order to provide quality estate planning to clients by working cooperatively with the clients’ tax, financial and insurance professionals.
Mr. Dale is disability rights advocate whose interest in the disability community began at an early age. He comes from a family of institutional workers that served in California’s State Hospitals and Developmental Centers for over 3 generations. Stephen worked for 17 years as a psychiatric technician in a variety of institutions in California, and later became an intern at the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) working on disability access cases before starting his own practice focused on drafting and administering special needs trusts.
Sabrina Padillo joined Rehabilitation Care Coordination (https://rehabcarecoord.com/) in 2019. She received a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in gerontology and public health and an Associate’s degree in Social and Behavioral Science from Grossmont College. Since joining RCC she has been a Case Coordinator and Benefit Specialist for clients, especially those with mental illnesses and the elderly. Prior to joining RCC she worked as a Pharmacy Technician for seven years and for the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency.
