She is asking me to wish upon something I cannot
see, to believe in there is another side and a way out, but
light pollution and pollution of light; yearning for
my eyes to ignite with the sheer amount of power
from the hands waving the countless neon glow sticks
(at the concert) but to amass this energy: effort and effort
I reiterate to her that I’m so tired and weary.
Yet she is leading me across as I’m barely hanging on, I
made a conscious choice to believe her belief in the beyond
and with one of my fingers grasping the edge of the
lifeboat, she said: “That’s all you need, you have me.”
That night equipped with my map and my compass, I
arrived at the exact coordinates on the crossroad of Hate
and Hope streets, and I gazed upwards to wish upon that
star that I cannot see, but all the while knowing that light
exists
