I’m sitting here at my desk reflecting on what I want to write about. The thought that keeps coming back to my mind is the importance of awareness. How can we use our inner turmoil and pain to inspire others? My story of depression is a long and drawn out one, one that I’ve shared here on my blog before.
Yet no matter how many years pass me by, one-thing remains constant, and that is my passion to share my story and inspire others through their pain. There is no easy answer, there is no black and white when it comes to mental health. It’s complicated and it’s messy, but the more we put it out there the more our voices can be heard over the noise. Our stories can be heard over what the media says mental health is.
There is nothing I want more than my actions to inspire those around me. I’m a woman. I’m a wife, a daughter, a Godmother, an Aunt, and a friend. I am so much more than a stigma title attached to my name. I’m more than a case file, I’m more than notes written down by a therapist. I’m me, I’m an individual with hopes and dreams that I hope to one day see come true.
Why do we sit back and let vicious lies, stigmas, and falsehoods be told about those who suffer like us? We need to be out there, even if it’s uncomfortable. We need to show them that we are no different from the rest of the world. We do not want to be treated like we have a plague.
Are you telling someone your story, so it can reach the far corners? I’m trying, that’s my passion. Through this journey I’ve been traveling for so long, I’m telling others what I’ve been through. I am running pages on Facebook, I am running my own blog and I blog here. Not because it’s about fame, it’s because I want the stigma gone.
I want others to know they are not alone. They may feel like they are the only ones out there in this vast universe, but they are not. We all have a story to tell and it’s time for those around us to hear it finally! Speak your mind. Speak your words, they need to be heard. The ripple effects can be far reaching!
