Something I am Proud Of:

I am proud that I have been able to maintain a healthy and stable life for the past five years since being correctly diagnosed (though I have lived with this condition for over 20 years). I attribute this to consistently taking my medications as prescribed, regularly collaborating with my psychiatrist and therapist, cultivating the support of my family and friends, and constantly seeking new and improved methods of self-care. I do all of these things so that I can maintain an awareness and vigilance for balance and meaning in my life, to become the best version of myself possible.

Advice for Newly Diagnosed:

Try to remember that recovery is an intentional process that takes time and effort over a lifetime. Giant changes will likely not be noticed overnight, but micro-changes do slowly occur. When added up over the years, they can create significant and positive results that can change a person’s entire life experience for the better. Be kind to yourself, stay patient, and never give up hope.
