What does “managing bipolar disorder” look like for you in daily life?
Managing bipolar to me on a daily basis is just managing my “warning signs”. I manage it with meditation time to time, eating better and exercise. Often, I will try to meet up with friends and just distract my brain. When I am feeling a low, my husband will get me out the house as he picks up my episodes before I do. Admittedly, I feel when I’m in my “highs”, I feel full of energy, full of life and that I do not need any form of help, support of therapy. I have to remind myself this is the bipolar telling me all is well and try continue of the path of positivity. I have chosen to not be medicated as I have amazing support and therapy.
What is something beautiful that bipolar disorder has helped you appreciate?
Something beautiful that bipolar has helped me appreciate has to be life. Bipolar has almost claimed me many years ago and I realized very quickly that I am loved, wanted, and appreciated. I now have a new love of life and a new attitude to life. Admittedly, sometimes it is difficult, but I remember how hard I have fought and how hard I work daily. I am unique, and strong, and bipolar just shows me I am a fighter.
What does self compassion look like in your life?
Self compassion in my life is treating myself with kindness and respect. Allowing myself to feel what I am feeling and understanding what my body is trying to tell me to do. I am more mindful now of my actions, my beliefs and my body as a whole. I treat people how I want to be treated. That’s why I help raise much needed awareness around the topic of bipolar to show others bipolar doesn’t define us. We define ourselves.
What are you passionate about?
I am very passionate about life and raising awareness. I am a pageant girl, aspiring solicitor, wife and mum. I am passionate about making a difference in the world and uplifting people, especially people who might be struggling with mental health. I want to use my voice and tell the world bipolar is not to be feared and help people better understand us as normal human beings because we are we just have difficulties. I use my platform to raise awareness, share bipolar quotes, raise money for Bipolar UK and other charities. I am passionate about me and just making the world a better place.
