The Australasian Society for Bipolar & Depressive Disorders (ASBDD) is a not for profit limited liability company registered by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission under the Corporations Act 2001 on 28 April 2005. The inaugural meeting of the Society was conducted by the Foundation Members on 31 August 2005.

Although the ASBDD is an independent Society, it is also affiliated with the International Society for Bipolar Disorders and has a close, mutually constructive, association with that organisation.

The Australasian Society for Bipolar & Depressive Disorders aims to be a primary forum for research communication, academic exchange, advocacy and education for this serious and prevalent disorder. The ASBDD is one of the founding chapters of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (www.isbd.org).

We would encourage anyone interested in this illness, its effective assessment and treatment to join the Society, and contribute to the effectiveness of the organisation. In addition, members of the Australasian Society can also join or renew their membership of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders (ISBD) via the ASBDD membership form. ISBD membership includes a one year subscription to the Journal “Bipolar Disorders”.

The purpose of the Society is to become the Australasian forum, and an internationally recognised forum, to foster ongoing collaboration, education, research and advances in the treatment of all aspects of bipolar and depressive disorders. The Society is open to the entire spectrum of mental health professionals including basic and clinical researchers, psychiatrists, pharmacologists, psychologists, social workers, students, trainees, interested lay groups and individuals.
