The Mood Disorders Center at the Child Mind Institute offers cutting edge, tailored treatment services for children and adolescents suffering from mood disorders and related concerns, including depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, suicidality and self-harm, and emotional dysregulation.

The symptoms that youth struggling with mood disorders can experience, including persistent feelings of sadness, irritability or explosive anger, and impulsive decision-making, can be debilitating and disruptive to their lives as well as to the functioning of their families. These symptoms can be difficult for parents to detect or understand. In some cases, children keep their suffering hidden. Parents usually know that something is wrong, but aren’t sure what it is. Leaving these disorders untreated can lead to unnecessary suffering and lifelong mental health struggles.

If you suspect that your child may be depressed or having difficulties managing his emotions, it is important to get an evaluation by a clinician who is experienced in treating these disorders. Early detection and appropriate treatment can lead to a better prognosis.

Our multidisciplinary team of clinical psychologists, board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrists, and neuropsychologists are experts in the most current assessment and treatment approaches.
