WBD 2025 Statements From Our Community

My name is Paris Scobie and I am bipolar strong. At 19, I found myself struggling from inside a psychiatric hospital, completely shattered by a diagnosis. I didn’t understand. Shame, fear, and loneliness wrapped around me and made me feel stuck. But I didn’t stay stuck. I fought my way forward—slowly, painfully—until I was strong enough to return to that same hospital, not as a patient, but as a provider. That experience lit a fire in me. I launched a podcast, Live Well Bipolar, and published my memoir, Crooked Illness, to share the stories that too often go unheard—mine and others. Bipolar didn’t break me. It forced me to finally show up for myself. And now, I speak so others know healing is possible and hope is real.”

“I never wanted BD, but it wanted me. After elevating my successful performance for years, it sent me into crisis and nearly destroyed me. But during my years of recovery, it has helped make me a better person -more friendly, kind, compassionate, caring and patient. It has also led to the creation of the best group of friends and colleagues I’ve ever known – the brothers and sisters of my bipolar family!! So, I am grateful and proud to be a bipolar warrior who is Bipolar Strong!”

Major General Gregg Martin, PhD, US Army (Retired)

“Bipolar isn’t what defines you. When you get diagnosed, you probably think to yourself that everyone will always be able to tell that you’re bipolar. Even on your worst days, no one will ever know. Unfortunately, you won’t ever be 100% normal or 100% sane, but who would want to be like that anyways?”As you get older, you’ll notice that everyone has their own demons to deal with. So accept your bipolar disorder, embrace it, learn its signs and warnings, set up a strong support system, and just know that this is just a tiny part of who you are!”

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” – Vivian Greene. Instead of fixating on perfection, I’ve learned that taking the first step, even amidst uncertainty, anchors me in stability and grounds my recovery.”
